What is a Proxy?
A proxy is the one which acts as a placeholder for contents that a person created. If someone builds an output, the content will replace the proxy. Regular topics and master pages can both be added by a proxy. In the case of applying a proxy to a particular topic, the information will only appear once in the output. On the other hand, in cases of adding a proxy to a master page, all contents or information will appear anytime the master page has been used. In creating navigation elements like indexes and glossaries, proxies are often utilized. Did you know that in online outputs you can also use proxies? Yes, you can make use of it in creating navigation output.
Types of Proxies
Having a glossary in your output will depend on you if you want to add some. You can create and include glossary proxy from your project whenever you wanted. All you need to do is to create a specific topic and insert your Glossary proxy.
In generating various types of elements like tables and images, you can also make use of List-of in your output.
A Body is a type of proxy which serves as a content placeholder of your topics. The content in your output will display as a header if you enter the additional content above the Body proxy bar. On the other hand, the body in your output will display as a footer, if you enter the additional content below the Body proxy bar. Also, for your output pages to share the same setting you only need one Body Proxy.
Concept proxy is another type of proxy which is used in order to generate a list of all the concepts in your project. In concept proxy, your project will have links that correspond to the content.
Same with the glossary, in the index proxy you need to create a specific topic and insert an Index proxy. It is only advisable if you want to include the index in your print-based output.
Endnotes proxy is used at the end of the manual, thus allowing you to start a list of endnotes on a new page.
Breadcrumbs proxy will display a trail of breadcrumbs if included in the master page. This train of breadcrumbs is composed of the table of contents.
Users are allowed to navigate other topics by the use of menu proxy. You can also create a menu that is based on your TOC file.
- Page Footer
Page Footer proxy is being inserted in the master page for your Framemaker output to have footers. It also allows you to create automatic page numbering in your master page.
- Page Header
You can insert Page Header in your master page if you want your output to have page headers. Just like the Page Footer, it also allows you to create an automatic page numbering in your master page.
